Job Brief:
To provide end to end support to the Financial Department by managing the daily
accounting tasks. You will be part of a team of professionals, working to maintain order and
transparency for all the company’s finances.
Preparing financial statements and reporting are a large part of the junior accountant’s day
to day work. The ideal candidate will be well versed in accounting principles and will be able
to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail.
The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the
company be fully aware of its financial position. This way it can make the right decisions and
accomplish long term success.
Key responsibilities:
• Coordinating month end process for the team – ensuring Bookkeepers are aware of
their responsibilities in good time.
• Detailed review of month end journals prepared by the team (accruals,
prepayments, depreciation, payroll) – Be responsible for ensuring all entries are
accurate, going back to team members with queries as appropriate.
• Post journals to the general ledger - Record values made in and out of the entity.
Posting journal entries to the general ledger to ensure the figures are recorded in the
correct nominal codes, in the correct period.
• Review petty cash journals and bank reconciliation. - Petty cash transactions must
be reflected, and the closing balance agreed. Ensure that all month end/year end
bank transactions match and are accounted for.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and analysis of numbers. - To provide the
company with the data required including KPI’s and commentary to make informed
business decisions.
• Review of balance sheet reconciliations following up on errors and omissions with
preparer.
• Assist with quarterly VAT Return
• Support and train a team of accounts assistants.
• Preparation of budgets and forecasts - In order to ensure that all intercompany costs
have been reflected in the correct period.
• Management of cashflow forecast.
• Produce ad-hoc analysis/reports where requested.
Qualifications/Experience:
• Ideally AAT Qualified or working towards professional qualifications (ACA, CIMA,
ACCA)
• A minimum of two years’ experience as assistant management Accountant.
• knowledge of accounting standards and financial regulations.
• MS Excel and good knowledge on accounting systems (Xero, Sage 50, QuickBooks,
NetSuite)
• Be passionate about quality and pay attention to detail.
• Be able to assimilate knowledge quickly and to apply it to appropriate situations.
• Be capable of multi-tasking, organizing, and prioritizing your own workload and
coordinating with others within the team.
• Be able to work in a busy environment with bright, challenging colleagues.
